Comparing vendors? Start with these eight questions.
Most school ERP comparisons are feature checklists, and feature checklists are where bad decisions get made — every vendor ticks every box. The questions that actually separate one system from another are about pricing structure, data ownership, migration scope and board fit.
Below is the framework we would use ourselves, followed by an honest account of what NLET School does and does not do. Take the questions to every vendor on your shortlist, including us.

The eight questions that actually separate vendors
Ask every shortlisted vendor the same eight. The differences show up in the answers they cannot give quickly.
1. Does it cover every workflow you actually run?
The most common implementation failure is buying a system that handles admissions and fees, then discovering transport, hostel and library still run on spreadsheets. Count the modules against your real operations, not the demo.
What to ask: Ask for a written module list, and ask which of them are included versus charged separately.
2. Is the pricing model per-student, per-module, or flat?
Two quotes can differ by 3× and still be "the same price" — one is per student per month, the other is an annual licence with modules bundled. Neither is wrong; comparing them without normalising is.
What to ask: Ask for the three-year total at your current enrolment, then again at your projected enrolment.
3. What happens to your data if you leave?
Student records, fee history and examination results are your data. A vendor who cannot export them in a usable format has made switching expensive by design.
What to ask: Ask for a sample export file, in advance, in a format you can open.
4. Who does the migration, and is it quoted?
Migrating years of student, fee and result records is the single most underestimated cost in an ERP purchase. "We will help you" is not a scope.
What to ask: Ask what the migration includes, who performs it, how long it takes, and what it costs.
5. Does it match your board and your state?
CBSE, ICSE and state boards differ in report card formats, grading and mandatory reporting. Generic software forces manual rework every examination cycle.
What to ask: Ask to see a report card generated for your board, not a sample from another one.
6. What does support actually mean?
Support quality decides whether admission season is calm or chaotic. "24/7 support" and "someone answers in Hindi during Indian working hours" are different products.
What to ask: Ask for response-time commitments in writing, the support channel, and the working hours.
7. Can parents and teachers actually use it?
Adoption, not features, determines whether the system pays for itself. A powerful platform that teachers avoid is an expensive attendance register.
What to ask: Ask for a parent app login and a teacher login on the demo, not just the admin dashboard.
8. Where is student data stored, and who can see it?
Schools hold minors' personal data. Hosting location, access control and breach process are governance questions, not IT trivia.
What to ask: Ask where data is hosted, who inside the vendor can access it, and what the breach notification process is.

Where NLET School may not be the right fit
A comparison page that only lists strengths is a brochure. These are the situations where we would tell you to look elsewhere.
- You need on-premise hosting. NLET School is cloud-hosted. If your trust or state requires servers physically on site, that is a genuine constraint, not a preference we can configure around.
- You are a single-teacher tuition centre. A full ERP is more system than you need. A scheduling and fees app will serve you better and cost less.
- You need a full LMS with course authoring. We cover learning management, but a school ERP is not a substitute for a dedicated authoring and assessment platform if that is your primary requirement.
- You want to buy today and go live tomorrow. Migrating student, fee and result history takes time if it is done properly. Anyone promising an instant switchover is not migrating your history.
